Democrat Lies Concerning Pre-war Intelligence On Saddam
Lee P. Butler
Bill Clinton said on February 17th, 1998, "If Saddam rejects peace, and we have to use force, our purpose
is clear: We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
and their liberal media brethren seem to have a congenital condition that limits their ability to remember or discern what
they have said concerning Iraq and weapons of mass destruction.
Some of us aren't intent on allowing that condition
to prevent them from simply ignoring the truth of their own words!
This past Friday President Bush spoke before a crowd
of soldiers and civilians. "While it is perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war," Bush stated
at his Veterans Day address inside a military warehouse at Tobyhanna Army Depot."It is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the
story of how that war began."
How are Democrats trying to re-write history concerning Saddam and the threat even they
asserted he posed?
They have disingenuously chosen to forget the words of their own Democrat leaders. They have chosen
to forget the seventeen United Nation's resolutions. They have chosen to forget the predominant support Democrats gave for
the military action named Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Even worse, they have intentionally denied acceptance of the results
of the bipartisan Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction lead
by Judge Laurence H. Silberman and former Sen. Charles S. Robb (D-Va.).
The commission examined the pre-war intelligence
and reported that not only had the intelligence about Iraq's illicit weapons been overwhelmingly faulty and wrong, but they
completely exonerated the President's White House and administration officials of charges from Democrats that they had pressured
intelligence analysts to shade or change their reports because of political pressure.
"Some Democrats and anti-war
critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war," President
Bush said, directing the political malfeasance of Democrats back at them, then he added. "These critics are fully aware that
a bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community's judgments
related to Iraq's weapons programs. They also know that intelligence agencies from around the world agreed with our assessments
of Saddam Hussein."
Those same assessments came from Democrat leaders such as, Senator Hillary Clinton.
10, 2002 she said, "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked
to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock. His missile delivery capability, his nuclear program. He has also given
aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists including Al-Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam
Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear
Using the template created by Democrats as they act holier-than-thou and attack Republicans and the administration
over the War on Terror, Senator Clinton was also lying. Did she not refer to the same faulty intelligence and called Saddam
a threat? Based on the same criteria used by Democrats, she was lying.
President Bush even went after his former opponent,
John Kerry, without actually naming him. He said Kerry, "explained his position to support the resolution in Congress this
way: 'When I vote to give the president of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein,
it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a threat and a grave threat to
Kerry took offense to being called out on the carpet for his vote in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom,
while 'flip-flop' Kerry now claims he believed otherwise. In a written statement, Kerry charged the administration, "misled
a nation into war by cherry-picking intelligence and stretching the truth beyond recognition."
Well, John 'cherry-picking' Kerry said on January 23rd, 2003, "Without question we need to disarm Saddam Hussein.
He is a brutal, murderous dictator leading an impressive regime. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is
so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he's miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent
grasp for weapons of mass destruction. His consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction."
Kerry has also become
a bed-fellow of snakeoil salesman, proven purveyor of false information, and former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV by jumping
at the chance to connect I. Lewis Libby Jr.'s legal troubles to the intelligence failures by saying, "That's why Scooter Libby
has been indicted…. It's a dangerous day for our national security when an administration's word is no good."
Senator Kerry, Libby was indicted because of prosecutor Fitzgerald's fishing expedition and you are now doing nothing more
than trying to divert attention away from your apparent (based on Democrat's criteria) lies leading up to the liberation of
"It's time for the president to restore the trust of the American people in their leaders by coming clean about
the war," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.). "Today's speech didn't do that."
Actually, it did. President Bush
clearly pointed out how Democrats thought and supported the same notions about Saddam that Republicans had and the President
even added, "That's why more than 100 Democrats in the House and the Senate, who had access to the same intelligence, voted
to support removing Saddam Hussein from power. The stakes in the global war on terror are too high and the national interest
is too important for politicians to throw out false charges. These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and
to an enemy that is questioning America's will."
You see, Senator Kennedy, you wouldn't know the truth if it... well,
let's see how much.
On September 27th, 2002 Senator Kennedy said, "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein
is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
Lies, Senator Kennedy, all lies. Just ask John 'cherry-picking'
Kerry's new friend, Joe 'I don't need no stinking evidence' Wilson.
